Athens, Alabama - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wesley Dean Stroud, Sr. on Monday, August 4, 2025, at his residence. Born on March 13, 1933, in Limestone County, Wesley was the son of Allen Wesley Stroud and Eula Eddins Stroud.
Mr. Stroud is survived by his loving children, Wesley D. Stroud, Jr., Jerry C. Stroud and his wife, Deborah, and Nina Stroud Smith and her husband, Dennis. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Rebekah S. Gleason (Scott), Samuel C. Stroud (Annette), Megan K. Stroud, Gina S. Garrett (Travis) and Carla K. S. Keathley (Chad). His great-grandchildren, Daniel, Micah and Eli Gleason, Braydon and Addie Stroud, Annie and Dean Garrett and Roy and Abigail Keathley, were cherished by him and brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Melba Mavourneen Carlisle Stroud. Also preceding him in death were his parents; grandson, Allen W. Stroud, II; and sister, Nancy S. Adair.
Family, friends and all who were touched by Mr. Stroud's warmth and kindness are invited to pay their respects at the visitation on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:50 a.m. at Sardis Springs Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with Tim Keenum officiating. Wesley will be laid to rest beside his wife Melba at Sardis Springs Baptist Cemetery.
Throughout his life, Mr. Stroud was a pillar of strength and a beacon of wisdom to his family. His love for his family was profound and unwavering. He cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was traveling to new destinations or enjoying a simple vacation together. He was more than just a father; he was a mentor and a guide, actively participating in his sons' lives as a Boy Scout Troop Leader. He served as the president of the PTA at Johnson Junior High School. Mr. Stroud was also known for his exceptional work ethic. As a machinist at Wolverine Tube, he was a dedicated and reliable provider for his family.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Stroud's leadership was evident in his community involvement. He was a respected figure in the Limestone County Cattleman's Association, serving both as a member and as president. His lifelong passion for beef cattle farming was not just a career but a testament to his love for the land and his community.
Mr. Stroud's life was also marked by a deep faith. He served as a Sunday School teacher for many years, imparting wisdom and spiritual guidance to those around him. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, influencing his actions and interactions with others.
Mr. Stroud's legacy is one of love, resilience, and commitment to family. His profound impact on those who knew him will continue to be felt for generations. As his family mourns his passing, they also celebrate the extraordinary life he led and the love he so freely gave.
