Thula Mae Batts


Thula Mae Batts, 90, of Athens died Tuesday at her residence. Mrs. Batts was born June 13, 1928, in Limestone County. She was a homemaker and a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Poplar Creek Cemetery with Andy John King officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Friday at Spry Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jeff Bridges, Rick Bridges, John Christopher Batts, Jason Black, Chaze Estes, Brody Black and Scott Black.
Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Thomas Norman Batts of Athens; sons, John T. (Jack) Batts and wife Beth of Athens and Jerry Batts and wife Marilyn of Athens; grandchildren, Allison Batts of Auburn, John Christopher Batts and wife Leslie of Athens and Lauren Batts McCracken and husband Will of Fort Collins, Colorado; great-grandson, Finn McCracken; sister, Sarah Mitchell and her husband, the late Wayne Mitchell; brother, Roger Black and wife Mary Dell of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents, Emmette and Leona Black; brothers, Johnny Black and Spencer Black; and sister, Lois Bridges.
The family requests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Hospice of Limestone County or The Baptist Children's Home in Decatur.
