Thomas Marvin Calvin
Thomas Marvin Calvin is walking tall with the angels above. Coach Calvin passed away peacefully in the arms of his true love of 70 years, Lenette Calvin, on January 22, 2020. Tom Calvin was a giant among men - one of the finest to ever walk this planet. He was a football legend; he was a brother; he was a son; he was a cousin; he was an uncle; he was veteran; he was a coach; he was a mentor; and he was a loving husband.
A celebration of Tom Calvin's life will be held Saturday at the Alabama Veteran's Museum in Athens, Alabama. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m., and a memorial service will be held at 2 pm. He will be buried at Roselawn Cemetery in Athens as well - his hometown.
Tom lived what he believed: if God is not the center of all things, then it will never be successful.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Tom Calvin's memory either to the Hospice of the Valley (Decatur) or to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

I will never forget Tom Calvin, who could??? He was a strong man with a gentle heart. He was a developer of good men as well. If his boys paid attention to him (and they almost always did) you didn’t hear of them going down the wrong path. He and Lennette were a formidable pair. She will continue to be strong while grieving because without a doubt she knows he is in a better place and he would want her to be strong.

Coach Calvin was great, even though he did get to bust my back side with his little paddle a couple of times with that left hand, for grades. He passed my house everyday when he lived at Lake Tate. You never knew when he just might stop to say hello if I was outside cutting grass or something. Sorry we can’t be there today as we are sick in bed, but our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs Coach Calvin and family. He was truely a man of honor, morals and he made a difference in a lot of young men’s lives. Miss you coach but will see you again one day in heaven.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of this great man. Few have left a legacy as great as that of Coach Tom Calvin, and we have no doubt that the first words Coach heard as he passed through Heaven's Gates were, "Welcome Home, Son....well done my good and faithful servant." Prayers for the Lord's peace and comfort for Mrs. Calvin and all of Coach's family. Go Rest High On That Mountain, Coach Calvin.
