Athens - Shirley Glover Bozeman, 90, affectionately known as Bobo, passed Aug. 31, 2025, while residing at The Caring House Hospice Family Care in Huntsville, Alabama.
A longtime member of First Baptist Church Athens, Shirley loved life and fiercely loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was an absolute joy to be around, generating an abundance of laughter, energy and fun wherever she went. She deeply enjoyed her family and many friends.
Born April 18, 1935, in Sheffield, Alabama, Shirley was a proud graduate of Athens College, majoring in business administration. She had a fulfilling 30-year career at Redstone Arsenal in Missile Command.
An esteemed member of Athens Chapter 214 Eastern Star, Shirley belonged from 1971 to present. At the pinnacle of her Eastern Star days, she served as Worthy Grand Matron of Alabama (1999-2000). She eagerly shared stories about her Eastern Star experiences. She was also an active member of Business and Professional Women, RSVP and The United Way.
A collector of precious trinkets such as salt and pepper shakers, McDonald's Happy Meal toys, egg separators and an assortment of the most unique items, like a "round tuit," Shirley always had a gift to give each time she saw youand a story to be told about each of her rare treasures. All in all, she was exceptionally charitable.
Shirley relished any opportunity to travel, all things Roll Tide, and ballroom dancing. The abundance of American flags in her home speaks volumes about her loyalty and deep patriotism, a trait well known to others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Carl Glover and Juanita Rather Glover; former husband, Troy Clinton Bozeman; sisters, Anna Belle Rivera, Helen Speegle, Beatrice Barnes, Mary Akright, Martha Macahilig, Jewel Holland, and Ramona Ford; brothers, Preston Glover, Loyd Glover, and Richard Glover; and grandson Brad Pugh.
Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Sheila Wilbanks (Rick) and Adina Peyton; three granddaughters, Erica Johnson (Darren), Morgan Kirkland (Drew) and Emily Peyton; great-granddaughters, Annabelle Kirkland and Caroline Kirkland; and great-grandsons, Sebastian Johnson, Cameron Pugh, Bryson Riggs and Jude Hudgens.
The visitation and funeral will be held on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025 at Limestone Chapel Athens, Alabama. The visitation will be from 12-1:45 p.m. The service will begin at 2 p.m. with burial to follow at Limestone Memorial Gardens.
