Llewellyn Talmadge Roberts
Born April 23, 1928, in Limestone County, Alabama, he was the son of the late Dewitt Talmadge Roberts and Ollie Mai Roberts. He had been a resident of Fitzgerald, Georgia, since 1969 and a resident of Columbus, Mississippi, since 2014. In 2017 he moved to Collierville, Tennessee, with his daughter, Caren and son in law Kent Walker.
Mr. Roberts was a 1947 graduate of Athens High School and a 1958 graduate of Auburn University. He graduated with a B.S. in Agriculture - emphasis in animal husbandry and a minor in chemistry. At Auburn, he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.
While at Auburn he met his late wife Mary Antoinette (Anne) Fuller Roberts. They married in 1956 at Morningside Baptist Church in Atlanta.
He was a former member of First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, Georgia, and while there served as a Deacon. From 2014 to 2017 he was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Columbus, Mississippi, and at the time of his death he was a member of Collierville First Baptist Church in Collierville, Tennessee.
He retired from the United States Department of Agriculture as a District Soil Conservationist after 26 years of service. During that time he worked as a Soil Conservationist in several south Georgia communities. He also formerly worked for the Farmers Home Administration in Vienna, Georgia.
Mr. Roberts retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sargent and served in the Air National Guard for 31 years. He served during the Korean War. He was a former Elk member and Past President of the Fitzgerald Lions Club. He and his wife, Anne, also enjoyed playing bridge and were duplicate bridge players for many years.
He is survived by two daughters; Cindy Miller (Jim) of Edgefield, S.C., Caren Walker (Kent) of Collierville, Tennessee, a son; Patrick Roberts (Judy) of Athens; brother; Pat Roberts (Wanda) of Athens; his brother-in-law, the Honorable Judge Hilton Fuller (Peggy) of Atlanta; seven grandchildren, Wells Miller (Cassie), Rebecca Fasano (Drew), Michelle Brit (Travis), Dr. Kyle Walker (Lauren), Dr. Clark Walker (Katie), Matthew Roberts (Caitlyn), and Dr. Christopher Roberts (Ashley); 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mr. Roberts will be held April 27, 2019, at the Copeland Place, 21938 Gray Ridge Road, Elkmont, Alabama, with Dr. Kyle Walker, grandson of Mr. Roberts, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the following churches, First Baptist in Fitzgerald, Georgia, Fairview Baptist in Columbus, Mississippi, or Collierville First Baptist in Collierville, Tennessee.
