Athens - Linda Mae Scharman, known to many as Sam 79, died peacefully at Hospice Family Care in Huntsville, Alabama on July 12, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Stoll Scharman; father, Robert Lynnwood White; and mother, Rhoda Louise Jones.

Linda was born in Mercer County, West Virginia. She and Ken, husband of 30 years, resided in Tucson, Arizona. After Ken's death, Linda moved to Athens, Alabama.

She was an avid Alabama fan. Linda adopted a beagle and named him Al-A-Bama. Al was her beloved companion for the past 8 years. She was an active member of First Methodist Church. Linda also volunteered at the Alabama Veterans Museum and helped at the veterans Coffee Call and she enjoyed spending time with her army of angels. Linda loved writing about her travels and life experiences which always showed her humor and love of life. Linda is survived by her brother, Robert L. White Junior of Florida. Services will be held at First Methodist Church 208 W Hobbs Street on Saturday, July 19 at 11 a.m.
