Athens - Glenn Eston Johnson, 88, of Athens, Alabama, passed away on May 2, 2025 after a hard-fought battle with Parkinson's Disease. His wisdom, wit, and unmistakable feisty personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Born on April 17, 1937, in Colbert County, Alabama, Glenn was the youngest child of Willie and Priscilla (Davis) and brother to Ben Davis Johnson. Glenn graduated from Cherokee Vocational High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army during peacetime. Glenn attended the University of Mississippi and later the University of North Alabama, where he majored in History and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He also received a Master of Science in School Administration from the University of Montevallo.

Glenn was well-known by generations of Limestone County students from his tenured career with the Limestone County Board of Education, serving in roles as teacher, coach, and principal at Piney Chapel, East Limestone, and Clements. He later worked as General Manager of TRIS USA in automotive component manufacturing and further explored his love of cars with an automotive sales position with Athens Motors and as owner of Glenn's Auto Sales in North Athens. Glenn later traveled statewide as an instructor with the Alabama State Department of Education. Before his retirement, he returned to his lifelong commitment to education, teaching GED prep classes at the Limestone County Correctional Facility alongside some of his colleagues from earlier in his career.

Glenn was treasured by his family, friends, and colleagues as a passionate Ole Miss football fan, a residential real estate enthusiast, an outspoken political debater, a voracious reader, a casino aficionado, and a champion of the small-town Southern life of yesteryear. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Richardson Johnson; his stepchildren, Allison Bains (Jarrod) and Will Hargrove (Maggie); step-grandchildren Hazel Hargrove and Willow Hargrove; nephew Ben Johnson, Jr.; and nieces Dinisha Smith and Randi Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents, Priscilla and Willie Johnson, and his brother, Ben Johnson.

An open-house style celebration of life to honor Glenn's legacy will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. at Lake Ida Events & Fine Arts, 101 Lindsay Ln S, Athens, AL 35613. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Presbyterian Home for Children in Talladega, AL or Hospice of Limestone County. A special thanks goes to Dr. William Woodall and staff and Hospice of Limestone County for the quality of care received at the end of Glenn's earthly journey.
