David Nathan Newton


David Nathan Newton, 94, of Athens died Tuesday at Athens-Limestone Hospital.
Mr. Newton was born May 19, 1924, in Limestone County. He was a retired pipe-fitter and welder. He was also a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Newton was a member of the Athens Masonic Lodge and was of the Methodist faith.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Spry Funeral Home, with Bobby Marks and Mike Green officiating. Burial in Roselawn Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service Saturday at Spry Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandson.
Survivors include wife, Alice Adell Newton of Athens; daughter, Martha Scroggins of Athens; sons, Larry Newton of Athens, Jerry Newton of Athens and Perry Newton of Madison; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by daughter, Pat Hamilton and husband Jerry; son, Gary Newton; and grandson, Bracy Hamilton.
The family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
