Athens, Alabama - Carolyn Compton Thompson, 94, of Athens, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Born on July 21, 1931, in Athens, she was the beloved daughter of Joe L. and Julia McClanhan Compton.
Mrs. Thompson's legacy is carried on by her loving family. She is survived by her daughters, Renea Rupp (Jimmy) and Lisa Bowen (Lee). Her cherished grandchildren include Whitney Kennedy (Jeff), Jacob Rupp (Jeana), Logan Cotton (McKenzie), Joseph Bowen and Sarah Bowen. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Jackson Rupp, Carley Kennedy, Rylie Cotton and Carter Cotton. Beyond immediate family, she was deeply loved by many nieces, nephews and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents and her husband of 59 years, Leatus Thompson.
Friends and family are invited to honor Mrs. Thompson's memory during a visitation on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 6-8 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 12 p.m. at the same location, with Clint Coffey officiating. She will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery. Barry Thompson, Jeff Thompson, Jacob Rupp, Jackson Rupp, Jeff Kennedy and Logan Cotton, her grandsons and nephews, will be serving as pallbearers, with Tony Compton as an honorary pallbearer.
Mrs. Thompson was a remarkable lady, known for her kindness and warmth. Her presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
