Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - Berta (Gora) Adler Merolli, formerly of Finleyville, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 22, 1940 in Athens, Alabama, to George and Stella (Green) Gora. Berta moved to Toledo, Ohio when she was 16 years old. She returned to Athens with her husband and daughter in 1974.

While in Toledo, she was a telephone operator for a local answering service. Upon her return to Athens, she saw a need in 1977 to provide after hours service to local business people and started Adler's Answering Service. Starting out with two clients, the business quickly grew. In 1983, the business was sold to local professionals and businessmen who incorporated. In the late 1980s the name was changed to AnswerTel and it still exists to this day. Berta went on to become a successful realtor.

She moved out of Athens in 1988, leaving family and many friends behind. Berta was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Berta is survived by her daughter, Laura (John) Webster; grandchildren, Caitlin (Andrew), John E. and Julia; Aunt, Janette (the late Willard) Abernathy; uncle, David (Shirley) Green; sister, Barbara Carter; niece, Michele (Charles) Rihn; grand nieces and nephew, Katrina, Kasandra, and Marcus; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, John E. Adler and Lou John Merolli; siblings, Hugo (Betty) Gora, Helen Gora, George (Judy) Gora, Louis (Verna) Gora, and Amy (Richard) Hartsel.
