Barbara "Sue" Brackeen Murrah Holton, 78, of Athens, passed away at home Thursday, November 14, 2019, after a long battle with PSP (progressive supranuclear palsy) Parkinsonism.
Sue was born March 3, 1941, in Athens, Alabama, to Henry Paul "Pete" Brackeen and Edna Mae Bates Brackeen.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; baby sister, Paulette Jane Brackeen; and fur babies, Doc, Saydee and Hank. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Jimmy Holton; three daughters, Connie Fain of Athens, Sandra Arnold (Jake) of Wetumpka, Alabama, Marla DeLong (Keith) of Knoxville, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, James Fain, Sarah Fain, David Fain (Anna), Jordan DeLong Roarty (Collin), Griffin DeLong, Emmy DeLong and Gracie Arnold; and four great-grandchildren, Aris Fain, Oswin Fain, Elliot Fain Adcock and Macie Arnold.
Sue loved her family, her pets, Jesus, Athens High School Class of 1959, her work families, her church families, Athens, shopping at TJ Maxx then returning her purchase later, chocolate, coffee, cake, her home, playing bridge, reading books, her sweet neighbors and traveling. She lived life to the fullest.
After retiring from the medical administrative field, she volunteered with the American Red Cross, was on the Athens-Limestone Beautification Board, served on the Donnell House Committee, worked with the First Baptist Church coat closet and filled in with Meals on Wheels.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2019, at the Holtons' home, 212 East St., Athens. In lieu of flowers, please perform a random act of kindness.
Honorary pallbearers include Mom's very special friend, Linda Curtis; and the ladies from her bridge club of almost 60 years, Myrna, Margaret, Irene, Sara, Peggy, Julia, Billie and Judy.
A special thank-you to Alicia, Derika and Whitley with Compassus Hospice and Pallative Care.
She will be greatly missed.
