Elkmont - Andrew Lewis "Sonny" Davis Jr. of Elkmont, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the age of 89. He was born February 25,1936 to Andrew L. and Sammie Adams Davis. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and hard work, instilling a sense of compassion and strong work ethic in his children.

Sonny's sense of humor and love of laughter were hallmarks of his personality. He loved to make people laugh and was quick with a joke, lighthearted teasing, or a humorous story. He was a common sight around the area with his horse and buggy or his prized 1965 Chevrolet.

A lifelong farmer, he enjoyed planting crops, gardening and recently hatching his own chickens. He spent 40 years at Burgreen Contracting, building bridges and pouring curb and gutter throughout North Alabama. He was always happy to point out his work that spanned from one side of the state to the other. Although he worked across the state, he was not much of a traveler and preferred being home, living his entire life in the same house in which he was born.

Sonny's greatest joy was found in his family. He was always anxious for all of the family to be together and loved the Sundays when all of his children were present. He loved his children but adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cherishing each moment he spent with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ora Downs, Claude Davis, Mary Romine, Martha McMunn, Anna Hill and Dean Hobbs.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jeanette Bauer Davis; one sister, Jane Woodfin; five children, Gay (Dewayne) Lewter, Andrew L. "Andy" (Deana) Davis III, Kathy (Joe) Britt, Harvey (Lisa) Davis, Dana Davis; special friend, Melissa Rice; grandchildren, Chad (Tessie) Hobbs, Wendy Hobbs, Andrew Lewis "Drew" (Misti) Davis IV, Chase (Abby) Davis, Leslie (Ben) Romine, Nicholas (Annalear) Davis; 9 great-grandchildren, Hudson, Griffin, Grady, Everli, Cash, Crew, Shai, Chloe and Evie; and one great-great-grandchild, Amelia. Services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19, in the chapel of Spry Funeral Home with Steve Downs, Marcus Hobbs and Sidney Allen officiating. Burial to follow at Sylone Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 18, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be, Chad Hobbs, Drew Davis, Chase Davis, Nicholas Davis, Ben Romine and Hudson Romine.
