Alvie Lee Smith Jr., longtime resident of Limestone County, died on April 8, 2025 in Savannah, GA at the age of 96. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Wilma Carroll Smith; his parents, Alvie Lee Smith Sr. and Zelpha Tribble Smith; a brother, Wayne Smith; and two sisters, Naomi Walker and Betty Jean Lewis. He leaves behind his sister, Martha "Mot" Tyler (Bobby); two sons, Danny (Betsey) Smith and Michael (Linda) Smith; a daughter, Terri Shankle; and a granddaughter whom he raised, Jennifer (Shane) Blake. Alvie also was the proud Papa to his grandchildren, Joe (Deanna) Smith, Tracy Hawkins, Leslie (Bill) Thomson and Brandon (Melissa) Smith. In his lifetime he was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Alvie also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and special friends, Steve, Fran, Shaina and Stacey Schulman, whom he loved dearly.

Alvie loved little children, vanilla ice cream, dancing, animals, yard sales, British comedies and gameshows. He was a woodworker, snappy dresser and always had an animated story to tell about his teenage years or the years he lived in Chicago. He was especially proud of his farm and vegetable garden, and enjoyed growing produce to share with his family and delivering his veggies to customers in offices around Athens. Alvie was a school bus driver for East Limestone in the 1980s, and he had many fond memories of that time and the students on his route. He was an active member of First Baptist Athens, then later at Sardis Springs Baptist church.

He will be interred during a small family gathering at Sardis Springs Baptist Church Cemetery later this summer.
