Wendell Eugene Powers


Wendell Eugene Powers, 86, of Athens passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. Mr. Powers was born May 7, 1932, in Limestone County to Bob Lee Powers and Bessie Fee Penley Powers.
Services for Mr. Powers are Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home at 3 p.m. with Pat Lawrence, Bert Pugh and Jerry Barksdale officiating. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
He is survived by Bert and Lynn Pugh; sister-in-law, Jane Powers; niece, Deborah Cates; nephews, Larry Powers, Jeff Powers and Mike Powers.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances Adell Brooks; brother, Bobby Powers; sister, Margaret Powers.
Mr. Powers was a County Commissioner for District 4 for 16 years. He was a member of Berea Baptist Church and The American Legion. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was on the Board of Directors for the Alabama Veterans Museum. He was a lifetime member of the Athens-Limestone Economic Development Committee. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and lawn maintenance.
Pallbearers are Larry Powers, Jeff Powers, Joe Pugh, Lee Pugh, Bert Pugh and Mike Powers. Honorary pallbearer is Ret. Col. Melvin McLemore.
In lieu of flowers, please make donation to the Alabama Veterans Museum.
