Text size

Susan Whitt (Suzie), 66, passed away peacefully on October 9 at Huntsville Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 11, from 5:30p to 8:00p at McConnell Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 12, at 1 p.m. in Roselawn Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.H. (Pete) and Alise Earney. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Gary, daughters Jaclyn of Savannah, TN, Tiffany of Athens, and Selena (Sean) of Athens, grandson Kadin, and three grand "dogs" Porscha, Bella, and Bentley.

Pallbearers are Stevie Richardson, Cameron Nye, Taylor Warren, Jeff Pugh, Dennis Black, and Nick Keeton. Special pall bearers are Brenan Ashmore and Ethan Keeton.

She was born in Memphis, TN and adopted by her parents, Pete and Alise Earney, on October 3, 1951. They lived in Memphis until 1965 when they moved to Athens. She graduated from Athens High School in 1969 and was a member of the All-State Chorus. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She married Gary on June 16, 1972 and they have lived in the East Limestone area for the past 41 years, raising 3 daughters who attended and graduated from East Limestone. She loved her photography and spent countless hours taking pictures and creating senior collages for the sports programs at East Limestone. She loved visiting Savannah and spending time crafting with Jaclyn. She loved music and attending many rock concerts with Tiffany. She got to follow and support Selena's years on the first girls' soccer team at East Limestone. For the past 5 years, she got to spend quality time babysitting Kadin.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at CCI, UAB, and Huntsville Hospital for their care and support during the past 2½ years. We found there is a big difference in care givers doing their job and care givers loving their job.
