Shirley Ann Brooks, age 80 of Athens, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Limestone Health Facility.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 2 p.m. at McConnell Memorial Chapel with Patrick Aube officiating.
Mrs. Brooks was born February 19, 1937 in Limestone County to Robert Doc Marks and Ila Gertrude Marks. She was a member of the Church of the Highlands in Birmingham. Having a rare blood type, Shirley was regularly contacted by the American Red Cross to donate blood. On many occasions, she willingly drove to other cities in order to donate her type. It became a passion for her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, J.C. Brooks and one sister, Judy Reece.
Survivors include three sons, Danny Brooks and wife Nelda of Oak Ridge, NC; Steve Brooks and wife Priscilla, Larry Brooks and wife Kathy, all of Athens; one brother, Bobby Marks and wife Vicki of Athens; seven grandchildren, Clint Brooks, Lindsay Naylor and husband Tim all of Athens; Austin Brooks and R.J. Brooks both of Oak Ridge, NC; Kevin Brooks and wife Danielle of Athens; Nichole Woodcock and husband Ed of Mobile, AL and Spencer Brooks of Florence, AL; four great-grandchildren, Adalynn Naylor, T.J. Naylor, Charlie Woodcock, and Lucy Woodcock.
