Shelia Garlen 65, of Athens passed away Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Huntsville Hospital. She was born in Limestone County July 25, 1952 to Lotha and Lucille Long. She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Garlen, parents,and several siblings. She is survived by one son, Michael Garlen (Rhonda); two daughters, Melissa Garlen (Shawn) and Staci Johnson (Donald Ray); five grandchildren, Laura Lindsey, Kayla Hill, Andrea Self, Brooklin Johnson and Zachary Johnson; also four great grandchildren, Hayden, Austin, Landon, and Olivia Hill, all of Athens. Five sisters, Elizabeth Phillips of Killen, AL, Amelia Johns of Athens, AL, Barbara McGill (Billy Ray) of Pulaski, TN, Regina Lovett (Tommy) of Pulaski, TN and Donna Jackson of Madison, AL; one brother, Danny Ray Long (Jenny) of Lester, AL. Special niece Joan Carter of Anderson, AL and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Garlen was a member of Salem Church of Christ and a avid Alabama football fan. Visitation will be Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 11:00am until 2:00pm at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. The service will follow at 2:00pm at Limestone Chapel. Burial will follow at Limestone Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to The American Cancer Society or research in her memory. Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family.
