Robert "Bob"'s Story
Robert "Bob" Dale Murdock, 75, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Bob was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Aug. 11, 1942, to Franklin Dale Murdock and Nora Ostrander Murdock. He was united in marriage to Lynn Smiley on Oct. 22, 1982, in Trenton, Georgia.
Bob was a United States Army veteran serving in Vietnam. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Athens. Bob enjoyed working in the yard, camping (he camped in most of the western states), telling people of his testimony and reading the Bible. He was a peace-loving man. He owned and operated 10 Tobacco Outlet stores in North Alabama and was an estimator for K & M Glass Co. and Bob's Glass in Orlando, Florida.
Bob is survived by his wife, Lynn; two sons, Robert L. Murdock (Debbie) of Beaumont, California, and Michael Murdock (Aprill) of New Market; two daughters, Tami Jones (Larry) of Prescott, Arizona, and Cyndi Springer (Larry) of Madison; two stepsons, Jeff Childers (Amanda) of Sanford, North Carolina, and David Childers (Sherrie) of Science Hill, Kentucky; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Friendship UMC. A celebration honoring Bob's life will immediately follow the visitation at 4 p.m. with Pastor Steve Dorning officiating.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to LCCI of Athens or the Full Tummy Project at FUMC.
