Pauline Smith Gossett passed away on December 13, 2017, at the age of 91. Pauline was born on July 21, 1926, to Reuben and Myrtle Smith of Athens, Alabama, and she was the youngest of six children, four of whom preceded her in death Roi Marvin Smith, Bryan Smith, Harold Smith and James Smith. Pauline is survived by her twin brother, Paul "Buddy" Smith of Athens.
Pauline was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Leonard W. Gossett, Sr. She is survived by four children: Priscilla Carroll and husband, Archie, of Athens, Georgia; Leonard W. Gossett, Jr. (Lyn), of Athens, Alabama; Alice King of Athens, Alabama; and Frank Gossett and wife, Fran, of Madison, Alabama. She had six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Pauline graduated from Athens High School and worked in several different positions in Athens and Huntsville. She retired in 2004 from the U.S. Army Missile Command in Huntsville, after 40 years of Government service.
Pauline and her family were nurtured in the Christian faith over many decades of faithful service and involvement as members of the First Presbyterian Church in Athens, Alabama. Pauline was a strong and active believer, and she served in many roles in the church over the years. She was an avid and enthusiastic reader of the Bible, and she was a role model for her children, family, and friends.
The family sincerely thanks their mother's caregiver, Chrissy Nave, for her faithful service, as well as the Heartlite Hospice Care staff.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2017, at McConnell Funeral Home in Athens, Alabama, with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m.
