Mary Jo Coffman, age 83, of Tallahassee, FL, formerly of Athens, AL passed away on Sunday, August 13th, at her home in Tallahassee.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church in Athens with Clint Coffey officiating and Charles Woodroof delivering the eulogy. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the First Christian Church. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery.
Mary Jo was born July 8, 1934 in Athens, AL to Tom P Smith and Mabel Noblitt Smith. She was a Medical Technologist, having worked in a medical laboratory for 42 years. She retired from Athens-Limestone Hospital as Laboratory Director in 1999. She continued to work professionally in Athens for a while and do volunteer work in Tallahassee in a variety of healthcare settings. She also continued her education with the senior learning program at Florida State University.
She is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Thomas R Smith, Bob Henry Smith, and Edward Clay Smith.
Survivors include: one son, David W Poole and his partner, Douglas Moore of Tallahassee, FL; two daughters, Mae Poole Mason of Athens; Mary Ann Ray and husband, Douglas Ray of Portland, OR; one sister, Joan Smith Cheves of Columbus, GA.
Grandchildren include: Clinton David Mason of Athens, AL and John Mathew Mason of Charlotte, NC; Gabe Fleser and wife Leah, and children Dylan and Grace of Portland, OR; Will Fleser and wife, Jessica, and children, Isabelle, Nora and Violet of Portland, OR.
Pallbearers will be: Tom A. Smith, Cass Smith, Stanley P Smith, William Allen Taber, Danny Curnutt, Sanders Woodroof, Gary Hill, Thomas Woodroof, and Gil Smith.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Ray Smith, Dr Billy Moore, Tommy Woodroof, and Fred Martin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, St Jude Children's Hospital, Feed the Children, the First Christian Church of Athens, AL or Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee, FL.
