Marjorie Smith Rose Marjorie Smith Rose, age 89, of Athens, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, at her residence.
Mrs. Rose was born Dec. 31, 1928, in Limestone County to Roland Cleveland Smith and Pattye Leonard Smith. A lifelong resident of Limestone County, she retired from the Department of Human Resources after 28 years of service. She was a member of West Highland Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, at McConnell Funeral Home; with services immediately following at 6:30 p.m., led by the Rev. Greg Lauderback and the Rev. Terry Jackson. A family graveside service will be Saturday, Nov. 17, at Athens City Cemetery.
Mrs. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, George Alvin Rose ("Cousin Josh"); her son, George Beverly "Bev" Rose; Bev's wife, Debbie Davis Rose; and Bev's and Debbie's infant son, Cole. Three brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Dixie Harrison of Athens; son, Mark Rose and wife Debbie Etheredge Rose of Athens; grandchildren, Katherine Harrison, Dana Steagall and husband Justin, Macy Rose, Blake Rose and fiancée Breana Brooks, and Trey Rose and wife Kayla; and great-grandchildren Everly, Ella, and Chapel. Mrs. Rose is also survived by her twin sister, Dorothy Blackburn and husband David; sister, Josephine Davis and husband Jimmy; and brother, Kenneth Smith and wife Peggy.
The family would like to especially recognize and thank Hospice of Limestone County and the wonderful caregivers who provided loving support: Linda Nave, Jill Dunn and Marisa Myers.
Pallbearers will be Nick Allen, Andy Collier, Blake Rose, Trey Rose, Justin Steagall and Curtis Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County, 405 S. Marion St., Athens, AL 35611.
