Lella Beatrice Furline, beloved mother of Gail Burton (Jim), Karen Hougland (Marv), and Pattie Baughman, (Denny), passed away on Aug. 5, 2017. She joined her husband of 52 years, Fred Furline, and her children, Ray and Anita.
Beatrice was born in Athens on Dec. 18, 1928, to Benton Vinson and Mary Hamsley Vinson. The fourth of fourteen children, she became the proud sister to her siblings whom she dearly loved: Sisters, Mattie Floy Smith, Dorothy Lewis, Gladys Jarrett, Betty Dean Dubois, Alice Jean Wilson, Francis Reeder, Margie Fay Free, and brothers, Howard, Samuel Redus, Thomas Eric, Allen, Bonnie Dewayne, and Dez.
She and Fred moved to Oberlin in 1953 where they made their home until 1984. When Fred retired from Ridge Tool and Bea retired from Hess Pharmacy, they returned "home" to Alabama to live a peaceful life on the Tennessee River. After Fred passed in 2002, Bea made her home with her daughter Pattie in Wellington, Ohio until 2011 and then in Wilmington, North Carolina, until she passed. Her final resting place will be in Elkmont, next to her husband.
During her wonderful life of 88 years, Bea became famous for her hugs, her love of sunshine, and her cooking skills. She loved her family and found great joy in her seven grandchildren: Windi, Michael, Jessie, Katie, Jennifer, Whitney, and Kyle, and six great grandchildren: Cameron, Tyler, Mason, Kai, Marley, and Vivian.
Cherished beyond words, Bea will be missed by her family and friends who recognized the gentle, sweet soul that she was. She was the best Mama ever!
