Surrounded by the love of her family and comforted by the love of her Savior, Kathyrine Irene "Rene" Malone Springer, 82, of Metropolis, Illinois, formerly of Athens, passed peaceably from this life at 10:52 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bottoms Cemetery.
Rene cherished spending time with her family. She loved to cook and bake for her family and her church family. She was known especially for her chocolate pies and chicken and dumplings, which she was frequently asked to make for church meals. Rene enjoyed coffee on her deck, and she could watch her hummingbirds for hours. Her strong faith persevered throughout her entire life. She had a lovely voice and loved to sing hymns. Singing hymns was a great source of comfort to her, even in her final hours of life, as she continually sang "Shall We Gather At the River" and "Amazing Grace." It was a beautiful witness to others of her love for her savior and her savior's love for her.
Rene was retired from Sears and a member of the Enon Baptist Church in Anderson.
She is survived by two sons, Jimmy (Joy) Meredith of Athens and Neal (Deborah) Malone of Kansas City, Missouri; one daughter, Lisa (Rev. Timothy) Bean of Metropolis, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Jimmy Meredith Jr., Jarron (Heather) Meredith, Mike (Lauren) Malone, Stephanie (Jeremy) Buehler, Sarah (Austin) Worth, Ryan Shippy and Reed (Ashley) Shippy; four great-grandchildren, Jarron, Nolen, Kyndall and Barrett; four sisters, Rosie Alexander, Inez Adams, Georgia Bailey, Donnie Putman all of Athens; one brother, Jerry Kimbrough of Athens; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Iver Kimbrough; first husband, Ossie B. Malone; second husband, John Dewey Springer; one son, Mark Timothy Malone; one sister, Edna Jackson; five brothers, William Kimbrough, James Kimbrough, Billy Kimbrough, Lonnie Kimbrough and Floyd Kimbrough.
Visitation will be held from 9-10:45 a.m. Saturday, November 11, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.
