Joe Allen Sims Sr., 88 of Athens, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at Huntsville Hospital.
Mr. Sims was born Oct. 27, 1928, in Red Bay, Alabama, to Jessie Leonard and Clemmie Whitfield Sims.
A graveside service will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 142 County Road 265, Burnsville, MS 38833, with Brother Fred Leonard officiating.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Mr. Sims was retired from Alabama State Health Department with over 20 years of service, and with Brown Engineering for 10 years. He was a graduate of Mississippi State. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, but his biggest joy was his family, especially grandkids and great-grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Clemmie Sims; four brothers, J.L., Robert, Tommy and Jack Sims.
He is survived by four children, Chip Sims and wife Becca, Lenny Sims and wife Julia, Cindy Baker and husband Neal, Johanna St.Amant and husband Heath; seven grandchildren, Ryan Baker and wife Brooke, Brent Baker and wife Rachel, Ross Sims, J.D. Sims, Dougless St.Amant, Shaw St.Amant and Rhys St.Amant; three great-grandchildren, Piper Baker, Tilly Baker and Norah Baker; one brother, Billy Sims; one sister, Sammie Gill; special friend, Benita Ulrich.
Pallbearers will be sons, Chip Sims and Lenny Sims; grandsons, Ryan Baker, Brent Baker, Ross Sims, J.D. Sims and Shaw St.Amant.
