Funeral services for Mr. James (J.D.) Swanner, 90, of Athens, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Spry Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Davis officiating. Burial will be in Tanner Cemetery. Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Spry Funeral Home.
Mr. Swanner died Saturday, July 1, 2017, at his residence.
He was born November 17, 1926, in Limestone County to James Dee Swanner and Minnie Lou Abernathy Swanner. He was a member of the Tanner United Methodist Church, a U.S. Navy WWII veteran, former Limestone County commissioner, store merchant and retired from Monsanto in Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcheta Haney Swanner.
Survivors include a son, Jim Swanner of Athens; daughters, Martha McBay and Lynette (Donnie) McBay, both of Athens; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and special companion, Scooter.
Pallbearers will be Burt Nelson, James Caraballo, Adam Shelton, Jordan Paul, T.J. McBay and Donnie McBay.
