Horace's Story

Horace Elbert Huggins, age 88 of Athens, AL passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at his home. Mr. Huggins was born on September 30, 1928 in Andalusia, AL to Sammy and Vera Huggins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Farris Huggins and Bill Huggins.
Mr. Huggins is survived by his wife, Doris Huggins; one daughter, Jeannie Thomley (David) of Franklin, TN; four sons, Michael Huggins (Jackie) of Athens, AL, Lynn Huggins (Jane) of St. James, MO, Neal Huggins (Susan) of Tuscaloosa, AL and Gary Huggins (Mary) of Birmingham, AL; one sister, Jeanette Pierce of Dothan, AL; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Huggins began preaching full-time in 1952 in Griffin, GA. He remained there 5 years, before moving to Clark County, AL in 1956 where he would preach for 22 years. Most of his ministry in Clark CO was in Thomasville, AL. He also ministered in Meridian, MS for 23 years. Upon his retirement in 2001, he became a member of Jones Road Church of Christ in Athens, AL where he served as an elder.

Services for Mr. Huggins will be 4:00PM Monday, July 31, 2017 at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with David Thomley and John Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:45 prior to the service. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, John Michael Huggins, Ryan Thomley, Jake Huggins, Eric Huggins, Matthew Huggins, Grady Huggins, David Huggins and Andrew Huggins.
