Helon Marie Taylor Strain, 89, of Athens, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at her residence. Mrs. Strain was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Red Level, Alabama. Mrs. Strain was a teacher with the Limestone County Board of Education and a homemaker. She was a Christian. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Survivors are son Bill (Deborah) Strain of Athens; daughter Betsy Strain (Nelson) Gilbert of Eagle, Colorado; sister Josalyn Hattaway of Tampa, Florida; brother Danny Buel Taylor of Montevallo; grandchildren Nelson Benjamin (Karen) Gilbert, Meredith Helon (Jeff) Kennedy, both of Vail, Colorado, Lauren Elizabeth Strain of Birmingham, Mary Louisa (Brooks) Marks of Birmingham and William Gray Strain of Nashville, Tennessee; and great-grandchildren Macy Jewel Gilbert, Hunter Benjamin Gilbert, Gracen Stuart Kennedy and Libba Jayne Kennedy, all of Colorado. Mrs. Strain was preceded in death by husband Thomas Douglas Strain and sisters Delon Lawrence and Jaquelyn Hill.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County. Spry Funeral Home assisted the family.
