Greg Allen Coons, 66, of Athens, AL, ascended to Heaven on December 10, 2017.
Born on November 11, 1951, in Wichita, Kansas, he was the son of a civil engineer who designed aircraft for the military. He lived all over the U.S., enjoying the desert of Nevada as his favorite place.
Greg retired from World Linc Corporation as Vice President of Operations for North Alabama. Licensed as a Realtor in 2005, he worked with his wife at RE/MAX Madison and later at Crye-Leike Realtors, Athens, through 2014.
Greg will be remembered as a well-read, confident, soft-spoken man with a deep faith in God and a dry sense of humor that everyone loved. He enjoyed fishing, coaching and playing baseball. Once you were his friend you were always his friend. Greg was a joyful member of Clements Baptist at the Creek.
He is survived by his wife Linda Sandy Coons. He is also survived by children, Chris and wife Dawn of Lawrenceville, GA, and daughter Gabrielle; Larry Coons of Hobbs, NM, and daughters Haley and Lynsey; Heather Turner of Atlanta, GA, and grands Austin and Amber; Geoffrey and wife April of Marietta, GA; and Michael and wife Kayla and daughter Elliott of Marietta, GA. Also stepsons Tim Cox and Ben Cox and wife Keri from Athens, AL.
Greg was preceded in death by his brother Larry Coons and parents Jack A. and Jacqueline Starbird Coons.
Celebration service will be held at McConnell Funeral Home, Athens, at 2 p.m. Saturday. Visitation 1 p.m. with the Rev. Tim Anderson and Dr. Ray Hutchison officiating.
