Gerard's Story

Gerard Joseph Sansone, 58, of Athens, died Wednesday at his residence. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Spry Funeral Home Chapel with Rick Cantrell officiating. Burial at New Salem Cemetery. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Spry Funeral Home.
Mr. Sansone was born September 26, 1959, in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Athens, he was employed at National Testing Systems of Huntsville and he was a retired Senior Chief in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors are wife Barbara Sansone, Athens; mother Rosemary Sansone, St. Louis, Missouri; daughters Rosemary E. Bailey, Athens, Marjory Clay-Switzer, Sanderson, Florida, and Christian D. Clay, Athens; sons David Mirabella, Fairhope, and Frank Mirabella, Athens; brothers Vince Sansone, Edwardsville, Illinois, Paul Sansone, St. Peters, Missouri, and Vito Sansone, Warrenton, Missouri; sisters Vera Chazen, New York, New York, and Teresa Ferguson, Austin, Texas; grandchildren Monique Douglas, Harley Mirabella, Dakota Mirabella, Christopher Clay-James, Shane James, Ivy Clay, Matthew Donahue, Dalton Donahue, Estelle Switzer, David Mirabella Jr., Ivy Jewel Mirabella, Levi Siniard, Balin Wyncoop, Alexis Engleman, Haley Smith and Layla Smith.
Preceded in death by father Vincent Sansone, sister Ilene Sanker, brother Fred Sansone and brother-in-law Bob Glover. Memorials may be made to Gideon's International or Butch's Boxes at Oakdale Baptist Church or BBN.
Pallbearers will be Paul Sansone, Kevin Sansone, David Mirabella, Shane James, Steve Pendergrass and Ralph Glover.
