Geraldine "Girley" Goode Butler, 80 of Athens, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 after a long illness. Mrs. Butler, affectionately known as Girley by her family and friends, was born on June 14, 1936 to Letha Nash Goode and Calvin Goode of Coxey, AL. Geraldine was one of two sets of twins in the family of 16 children. She married Malcolm A. Butler and had four children.Geraldine was a lover of gardening and flowers. She loved country/bluegrass music and dancing. She was a great cook and did so for her family every Sunday for many years. Geraldine always loved being around family, especially children and babies. She was always up for a good laugh and was beloved by her entire family.Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her grandson, Bruno Douglas Rose, and 8 siblings.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, March 14, 2017, 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home Chapel, with Randy Evers officiating. Burial will be in the Butler Cemetery in Lauderdale Co. Visitation will be Tuesday, 12 Noon until service time. Grandsons will be pallbearers.
