The funeral for Mr. Felix Edward Bates will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at McConnell Memorial Chapel, with Joel Schrenk and Chuck Hood officiating.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Monday at McConnell Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Bates passed away Saturday July 8, 2017, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.
He was born April 21, 1935, in Limestone County to Lewis David Bates and Eddie Ruth Johnson Bates. He was a retired letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Huntsville, Alabama.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary Jane Bates; two brothers, David Almond and James Lewis Bates; and one sister Mabel Lee.
Survivors include two sons, Tommy McCurley and Tim Bates, and one daughter Felicia Mucci and husband Gino, all of Athens; four brothers, Hugo, Bobby, Harold and Donald Bates; one sister, Dorothy Weathers; eight grandchildren, Andria Francis, Jonathan Mucci, Zachary Mucci, Elizabeth McCurley, Dustin McCurley, Savannah McCurley, Morgan Bates, and Erika Clark; and 11 great-grandchildren.
