Esther Lucille Jernigan, 76, of Athens, died Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Limestone Health Facility.
Mrs. Jernigan was born June 11, 1941, in Washington, D.C., to Abie Abraham Sher and Marie Beach Sher. She was an active member of Salem Springs Baptist Church, Limestone Baptist Disaster Relief, and the Builders for Christ projects. Mrs. Jernigan was an avid supporter of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. She was a nurse who retired from Athens-Limestone Hospital after 50-plus years of service.
Her funeral will be noon Monday at Spry Funeral Home, with Kip McKee, Mitch McCormick and Jerry Marlow officiating. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence (Ed) Jernigan of Athens; two daughters, Cynthia Rouse and Karen Harbin, both of Athens; four grandchildren, Andrew Harbin, Jamie Rouse, Lynsey Harbin and Amber Rouse; and one niece, Shannon Sher.
Mrs. Jernigan was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Harbin, Jamie Rouse, Stanley Scott, Allen Jernigan, Jonathan Jernigan and Landon Adams.
Memorials may be made to Relay for Life.
