Eleanor's Story

A graveside service for Eleanor Hill Cox, 89, of Athens, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Athens City Cemetery with Tony Johnson officiating. A celebration of life service is planned for Friday in Georgia.
Mrs. Cox passed away Monday, Aug. 7, 2017.
She was born Feb. 16, 1928, in Athens. She was the daughter of the late Ulner Hill and Flora Morris Hill.
Mrs. Cox was known to all of her friends and family as the "Merle Norman Lady." She was one of the first women in Limestone Count who owned a business She proudly ran and operated her Merle Norman cosmetics store for 35 years.
She was a true and faithful servant of the Lord and a proud member of Sam Jones United Methodist Church. She was an avid master gardner and spent much of her spare time tending to her flower gardens. She was a cherished mother and grandmother who is already so greatly missed but never will be forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Rudolph Cox; and brothers, Doris and Houston Hill.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol (Keith) Sandlin; grandchildren, Kerri (Brent) Applegate, Claire (Robert) Brannon and Katie (Tyler) Brown; great-grandchildren, Shaw and Chase Applegate, Jake and Levi Brannon and McRae and Collier Brown; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial donations may be made in her honor to Sam Jones United Methodist Church, Stephen's Ministry.
