Billy Douglas Claxton, 81, of Athens, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at Huntsville Hospital.
Mr. Claxton was born Aug. 26, 1935, in Limestone County. He was a member of Westview Church of Christ and was retired from Athens Fire Department as the Assistant Chief. He was also a former owner and operator of Bills Texaco and Amoco. In later years he was employed by Champion Chevrolet.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Spry Funeral Home Chapel with Casey Harbin, Tim Sutton and Scott D. Claxton officiating. Burial in Roselawn Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Spry Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Tim Claxton, Ronnie Claxton, Derick Claxton, John Claxton, Mike Brown and Scott Bobo. Honorary Pallbearers are Past and Present Fireman City of Athens.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Doris Brown Claxton of Athens; son Scott Douglas Claxton of Athens; daughter Belinda Claxton Priest Bishop of Athens; brother Windell Claxton of Athens; grandchildren, Clint Priest and wife Lauren, and Amy Priest; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents Robert and Ida Bell Claxton; brothers Robert (Bob) Claxton and Garland Claxton; and son-in-law Randy Priest.
